My hope for the US...

Is that the future for all her citizens is one where they will go forward hand in hand...
otherwise all efforts to unify the different peoples will have been in vain.

You want us to become a dictatorship where intellectual dissent isn't allowed?

I think it can happen if everyone does their part. I wish them luck too. I know a lot of very special people who live and work there, as you do.

The difference between Americans and everyone else is that Americans have NO IDEA what is going on in YOUR country(s), let alone do they care.

Though even as I say that, I realize that I pray regularly for Chavez to ousted, for peace in the Middle east, for freedom of religion in Northern Africa, for complete freedom and healing in N. Korea and a quieting of the unrest in Kenya. Si maybe we aren't so bad after all.

I do NOT think OBama is the harbinger of utopia in the U.S. (not by a longshot!), but I do pray for him to have wisdom.

Hmmm. I just realized that my 1st ¶ sounded a bit harsh. I didn't mean it to be a slam against you! I meant it to be a slam against the ubiquitous American self-absorption.

Just wanted to make that clear!

I love my country. I love my countrymen. I loathe our cooperate arrogance.

I'll answer your comments collectively...

Socially;
This post was an attempt to express my hope that this chapter in America's history, although born of politics, would be a turning point for social inclusion of minorities as represented by the election of a president from the minority sphere.

Politically;
My view is that the political system in the US is such that it can, and sometimes has, excluded the most suitable candidate for the position. I concede that, as an outsider, I probably don't have a high level of understanding of how it all works, however as an observer, I have observed some very interesting choices.

Of course I also concede that all political systems have their flaws and Australia is not immune to the shortcomings of popularly elected governments. But I wouldn't have it any other way.

Unity in America is NOT about skin color! That is a concept the media pushes on the world. We do have a divide, but it isn't based in racism....our divide is about much more serious issues like remaining a soverign nation which still honors the declaration of independence, the constitution and the bill of rights. I for one, am NOT interested in living in a socialist dictatorship nor a new world order which has targeted my country for their agenda.
